John Deere's Z900 series is renowned for its versatility and durability. But did you know you can enhance its utility even further? Today, we'll walk you through the process of installing a yard tool kit on your John Deere Z900 mower, ensuring you have a convenient place to store essential yard tools while you mow.

In the kit:

  • Two 13-mm bolts
  • Longer cap head screw bolts
  • Carriage head bolts and nuts
  • Main bracket pieces
  • Tubes for holding yard tools
  • Rubber grommets
  • Instruction guide

Tools needed:

  • 13-mm socket
  • electric impact OR standard socket & ratchet

Preparing for Installation

Before you begin, locate the two bolts at the back of your mower, right below the muffler on the right-hand side, and remove them using your 13-mm socket and either an electric impact or a standard socket and ratchet. This will make room for the new kit. Set these bolts aside safely, as they won't be needed for the new installation.

Assembling the Frame Pieces of the Yard Tool Kit

Inside your yard tool kit you will find a set of longer cap screws (13-millimeter bolts). Begin assembling your yard tool kit by sliding the two main pieces of the kit together. Once they're aligned, insert the new cap screws into the frame at the top and secure with the nuts and bolts. This ensures that the holes on the bottom bracket align correctly for the next step.

Securing the Kit to the Mower

With the top bolts loosely in place, you can now connect the bottom of the bracket. Use the carriage head bolts provided in the kit, ensuring they fit snugly into the square holes of the frame. Once these are in place, tighten all the bolts using your 13-millimeter tool.

Installing the Tubes

Before placing the tubes into the bracket, ensure you've inserted the rubber grommets. These grommets help reduce vibration and prevent the tubes from rattling during operation. A bit of soapy water can help ease the tubes into the grommets. Once in place, secure the tubes with the long bolts provided, ensuring they're tightened with a 13-millimeter wrench.

With everything tightened and in place, you now have a handy storage solution for your yard tools. Whether it's a rake, shovel, or any other tool, your John Deere Z900 now offers a convenient storage solution.
