Putting the Light Assembly Together

To start, gather your kit components. You'll have a mounting bracket and a light bracket, along with the necessary hardware to assemble them. The bracket hardware includes a bolt, a rubber washer, a metal washer, and a matching nut. The light assembly hardware comes with a Carriage head bolt, another metal washer, a nut, and two plastic washers.

Begin by attaching the light bracket to the mounting bracket. Insert the bolt into the bracket, ensuring it fits snugly. Place the rubber washer onto the bolt and pass it through the bracket, followed by the metal washer and nut. Tighten everything with your 17mm wrench and socket. Now you’re ready to install the light.

Next, position the light on the bracket. The light housing has grooves where the plastic washers will sit. These washers go between the light housing and the bracket. Insert the Carriage head bolt through the bracket and light housing, then secure it with the metal washer and nut. Tighten it with your 13mm wrench, adjusting the light angle as needed. Repeat this for the other side, and your light assemblies will be ready to mount.

Mounting the Lights onto the Machine

Now that the lights are assembled, it’s time to attach them to your mower. The lights will mount in front of the motion levers using the provided bolts. First, remove the existing bolts with your 10mm wrench. Set the new light assembly in place, and use the new bolts from the kit to secure the lights to the mower. Tighten them with your impact drill or ratchet.

Installing the Wiring Harness

With the lights mounted, it’s time to install the wiring harness. Start by lifting the seat to access the area underneath. The harness has connections for the lights, battery cables, and a plug for the switch. Route the harness along the left side of the mower and connect the plug to the back of the light assembly. You'll find a metal clip on the harness that attaches to the motion lever bracket. Secure it with the provided bolt, and use the black pop-in connectors to keep the harness tidy.

Next, connect the battery cables. Remove the battery cover and identify the ground (black) and power (red) cables. Loosen the terminals, attach the harness connectors, and retighten the terminals. Once secured, replace the battery cover.

Installing the Switch

Finally, install the switch. On certain models like the Z740R, there might already be a switch in place. If not, you’ll need to pop out the pre-cut switchhole. Use the T20 star bit to remove the bolts holding the switch panel in place. Pull the panel up and out to access the back. Feed the plug from the wiring harness through the hole, connect it to the switch, and push the switch into place. Reattach the switch panel, and you’re done.

Once everything is connected, test the lights by turning on the switch. The lights should come on, even if the mower is off, giving you that extra visibility when you need it most.

And that’s it! You’ve successfully installed the LED light kit on your John Deere Z7 mower. Whether you’re mowing at dusk or dawn, this kit will ensure you have the visibility to get the job done safely.
