Read MoreInstalling the toolbox kit on your John Deere Z735M mower is a quick and simple process, but it adds significant convenience. Having a toolbox mounted behind your seat ensures that you can keep essential tools or even personal items like your phone, wallet, and keys on board while working. Let’s walk through the installation process and get this useful attachment set up.

We’ll begin by mounting the bracket to the ROPS (Roll Over Protection System) on your Z735M. This is a straightforward process, and the hardware included might seem like a lot at first glance, but it’s a simple setup once you get going. You’ll notice two bolt holes on either side of your ROPS—one in the knuckle area of the ROPS and one just below it. This is where the hardware will attach to secure the bracket.
Start with one of the longer bolts. You’ll need three washers to place between the bracket and the ROPS. Insert the bolt through the bottom hole of the bracket, ensuring the bracket mounts outward to give you enough space for the toolbox behind your seat. Once the bolt is through, push it through the ROPS, and then secure it with a nut on the opposite side.
After loosely installing the first bolt, repeat the same process on the other side of the ROPS. Make sure all bolts and washers are properly aligned. Next, grab one of the smaller bolts and insert it into the smaller hole at the top of the bracket, securing it into the knuckle of the ROPS. Hand-tighten the nut on the back. Now, using your 13mm wrench and socket with a ratchet or impact driver, fully tighten all the bolts on both sides, making sure the bracket is snug and secure.
Now that the bracket is installed, it’s time to mount the toolbox. Open the toolbox and align the pre-drilled holes on the bottom with the holes on the bracket. Depending on your preference, you can mount the toolbox in the center or offset it to the left or right side of the bracket for easier access. Once you’ve chosen the position, take the smaller bolts and washers, and insert them through the holes in the toolbox and into the bracket.
Secure the bolts with nuts on the underside of the bracket. Use your 13mm wrench and socket to tighten them, being careful not to overtighten and crack the plastic. Tighten just until the toolbox feels solid and firmly attached.

Once installed, the toolbox adds a great amount of functionality to your Z735M mower. It’s perfect for storing tools you may need while working or even for securing personal items like your wallet, phone, or keys. The toolbox can also be locked for extra security. If you’re worried about it jiggling open during use, simply add a lock to keep everything safe and secure. This feature also serves as a theft deterrent if you’re leaving your mower unattended.
