Understanding the AutoCut® C6-2 Head

The STIHL AutoCut® C6-2 trimmer head is designed for smaller trimmers, offering a compact solution with a capacity suited for lighter trimming tasks. Its construction includes arrows on both the outer spool and the inner piece, guiding users for a correct reload. The head accommodates two string sizes: the larger .095-inch string and the slightly thinner .080-inch string, with a maximum string length of 13 feet that can be wound into the head.

How to Load the String

Reloading the AutoCut® C6-2 starts with cutting a piece of string, typically 13 feet in length, to ensure both ends of the string are balanced when loaded. To begin, align the arrows on the spool, which correspond to the eyelets on each side of the head, creating a clear path for the string. Insert the string through one side and guide it through until it emerges from the opposite end. The goal is to pull the string through until its ends are even.

Once the string is positioned evenly, locate the slots in the grey piece of the trimmer head. These are designed for winding the string by twisting. This part of the process can be slightly more challenging when performed off the machine due to the center cap's tendency to pop out. However, it remains a manageable task with careful handling.

After winding, the string may extend beyond the desired length. If so, a simple trim will ready the string for use. Upon reattaching the head to the trimmer, a few taps on the ground (utilizing the head's tap action feature) will adjust the string to its optimal cutting length, as determined by the trimmer's shroud.
