Read MoreMaintaining a John Deere tractor-style or zero-turn mower involves more than just fueling and replacing blades. Regular greasing is a vital yet often neglected practice that can extend the life and performance of your mower.

To grease your mower, a standard grease gun with a hose is recommended. This tool can reach the hard-to-access spots on your mower, ensuring complete lubrication. The amount of grease to apply varies but the general rule is to apply grease until you feel pressure building back on the grease gun and stop when you see grease appear between two metal surfaces at the pivot points.
Tractor-style mowers, like the John Deere X320, primarily require greasing at two places: the front axle and the mower deck.
The front axle has three different grease points: two on the wheel spindles and one in the center which serves as a pivot point. Greasing these points ensures smooth operation and prevents the entry of contaminants and water.
The mower deck, with grease zerks on all spindles (the parts that turn the blades), needs regular greasing to avoid internal damage and ensure smooth operation of the bearings.
Zero-turn mowers, like the John Deere Z9, also require greasing at the front wheels and the mower deck.
The front wheels of a zero-turn mower run on spindles, which need regular greasing to ensure optimal functioning and longevity of the bearings.
The principle for greasing the mower deck remains the same as in tractor-style mowers: regular greasing ensures smooth operation and extended lifespan.
Other potential greasing points include the pedals, deck lift pedal, tension arm on your deck, and control levers. Consult the operator manual or watch model-specific videos if unsure about specific greasing points on your mower.

Regular greasing of your mower ensures optimal operation, extends the lifespan of your machine, and ultimately saves you time and money in the long run.
