If you're looking to make maintenance on your John Deere Z5 mower a little easier, you might want to consider installing a Jack kit on the front of your machine. This kit allows you to lift the front of the mower, making it easier to access the blades or the underside of the deck.

Keep reading for a step-by-step guide on how to install the Jack Kit on your John Deere Z5 zero-turn mower.

In this kit:

    - Jack
    - Mounting bracket
    - Mounting pin
    - 5 carriage-head bolts
    - 5 lock nuts

Tools needed:

    - 16-mm socket
    - Socket extension
    - Ratchet
    - Impact drill

Installation

Mounting bracket

To install the Jack mounting bracket, we first need to remove the foot platform. Once that's out of the way, we can access the three holes on the top of the mower frame that will match up with the three holes on the top of the bracket.

Next, place the bracket onto the frame, lining up the holes. The front of the bracket also has two holes that will match up with the two holes on the front of the frame. Use the 16-mm socket, socket extender, and ratchet to tighten up the five carriage-head bolts and lock nuts included in your kit to secure the bracket onto the mower frame.

After the bracket is securely attached to the frame, reattach the foot platform. It should fit snuggly underneath the bracket.

Front Jack

The kit includes a pin that will hold the Jack in place. Feed the key ring of the pin through the back of the bracket to keep it in place. Once the pin is installed, you can attach the Jack by sliding the tubular portion of the jack onto the mounting bracket and aligning the holes on each to allow the mounting pin to slip through easily and secure the connection. When the mounting pin is securely in place, spin the lever on the jack counterclockwise to raise the mower and clockwise to lower the mower.

When you're finished using the Jack, you have two options for storage. If you need to keep it on the mower while you're transporting it, you can simply remove the pin, rotate the Jack 90 degrees, and then reinsert the pin. This will put the jack in travel mode. Alternatively, you can remove the pin entirely and store the Jack separately.
