How to Install Bluetooth Smart Connector on John Deere Z5 Zero-Turn Mower

Are you ready to take your John Deere Z5 mower to the next level of convenience and control?

In this step-by-step guide, we will walk you through the installation process of the Bluetooth SMART connector on your John Deere Z5 mower. This nifty device allows you to conveniently monitor your machine using the John Deere Mower Plus mobile app. If you're not familiar with this app, don't worry—we will provide the link to our helpful video at the bottom of this article.

So, let's dive right in!

In this kit:

    - Bluetooth SMART Connector
    - Self-tapping screws
    - Dummy cover
    - Instruction manual

Tools needed:

    - Flathead screwdriver or specialized tool
    - 10mm socket or wrench
    - John Deere Mower Plus mobile app

Removing the Mower's Right Side Panel

To begin, we need to remove the cover on the right-hand side panel of your Z5 mower. You'll find three push clips securing the panel—one in the storage container, one by the control stick, and another on the inner side of the cover next to the engine, as shown below. Using a flathead screwdriver (or any tool designed for removing clips), carefully pry the push clips out one by one and set them aside for later use during reassembly. With the push clips removed, lift up the panel to reveal the wiring hidden underneath. 

Securing the Bluetooth Connector

Locate the two mounting holes in the plastic just below the wiring, shown below. These holes are specifically designed for the Bluetooth SMART Connector. With the plug side facing outwards, secure the Bluetooth SMART Connector to the mounting holes using the two self-tapping screws included in the accessory kit. Ensure the screws are snug but not overtightened.

Connecting the SMART Connector

Now that the Bluetooth SMART Connector is fastened to the mower, the next step is to plug it into the mower. Nestled underneath the wiring on the side of the mower, as shown below, you will find the plug used to accomplish this. It should be black and feature eight white spots its end. It will connected to the mower by orange, white, and green wires, as shown below.  

Once you find the plug, notice that the portion with eight white spots can be removed. This is called a "dummy cover." Remove this dummy cover to reveal the white plug end, shown here. Next, simply insert this plug into the exposed outlet on the Bluetooth SMART Connector. Once connected, proceed to tighten the bolts on either side of the connector using a 10mm socket or wrench, ensuring a secure fit. 

Reassembling the Mower's Right Side Panel

Now it's time to put everthing back together! Carefully position the cover back in place, making sure the display panel fits snugly. This step can be a bit tricky, so take your time. Once in place, reinsert the three clips into the cover and push them down securely to complete install.
