The main struggle we hear about when it comes to battery installation is not the installation itself, but rather how to get to the battery in the first place and remove it. The process is relatively simple with some guidance. So we’re here to show you step-by-step how to access the battery on your XUV 835R Gator and remove it quickly and easily.

Tools needed:

    - 10-mm socket
    - Ratchet
    - Flathead screwdriver

Accessing the battery

On a John Deere UXV 835R Gator, the battery is located towards the bottom of the machine on the passenger side hidden behind the gray panel seen here. This panel will need to be removed in order to access the battery.

To remove the panel, first open the passenger door to reveal five push clips along the top of the panel, as shown here. Pry these loose using either a plastic fastener remover tool like the one shown here, or simply a flathead screwdriver.

Next, remove the two screws found along the base of the panel, shown here, as well as the two screws located underneath the rear fender and just above the tire, also shown here. To remove these, use a torx head and an impact driver. Now remove the air filter cap shown here to easily detach the panel from the machine and reveal the battery. Set the air filter, panel, and all screws and push pins aside for later reinstallation.

Removing the battery

Once you have eyes on the battery, notice the two clamps holding it into place, one on the front of the battery and one on the back. Release their grip on the battery by remove the screws at the base using a 10-mm socket and ratchet. The placement of these screws is shown here.

Next, use the 10-mm socket and rachet again to remove the negative terminal along the rear of the battery. With those things released, slide the battery out halfway allowing access to the “positive cable.” Disconnect this cable and slide the battery all the way out fully detaching it from the Gator.
