How to Inspect and Replace the Transmission Belt on a John Deere Z9
May 28, 2024
Read MoreJohn Deere never fails to impress with their yearly lineup of robust and efficient mowers. As always, they've introduced some interesting changes for the 2023 mower collection. We'll break down these changes in detail, ranging from the entry-level S100 series all the way up to the commercial-grade Z900 series.

One of the most notable changes across all mower series is the introduction of green decks. This change in color might seem minor, but it shows the company's commitment to a consistent aesthetic across all mower ranges. The Z700s and Z900s were already sporting these green decks, but now every John Deere mower will embrace this striking feature.
In the S100 series, no significant changes have been made except for the green decks. But there's exciting news for fans of the S110 model, which is making a comeback after being removed from the lineup. As for the S200 series, the only update is the transition to the green decks.
Moving up to the Select Series, the X300s, X500s, and X700s also see some adjustments. The X300s are getting green decks, and interestingly, the X300s and X500s will now share the same hood. This is a strategic move to reduce parts complexity, making replacements simpler and more streamlined.
All three models in this range (X3, X5, and X7) will also share the same battery, a seemingly small yet practical tweak for those owning different units within these series.
In the X500 series, apart from green decks, the X580, X584, and X590 models will offer an option for a four-bar suspension under the seat. This enhancement aims to provide superior ride quality, catering to the commercial side of tractor-style mowers.
The biggest changes in 2023 are seen in the Z3 category, which has undergone a complete redesign. The Z3 models are entry-level zero-turn mowers in the John Deere lineup and have received extensive upgrades.
The upgrades include a 40% increase in frame strength, a 67% increase in front caster size, new engine options from Kawasaki and Briggs & Stratton, and a design refresh with upgraded fenders. Additional enhancements include an interlocking parking brake, upgraded lift, and foot platforms, and enhanced lighting.
As for the Z5 mowers, the primary change is the green decks. But once we move to the Z7 mowers, there's a new model, the Z760R, with a 27hp power engine. The Z7 mowers also get marine-grade vinyl seats, offering excellent weather protection.
Lastly, in the Z9 lineup, the key changes are new seat designs and minor deck alterations. For instance, the lowest level Z915E now features a pro-style seven-iron deck. There's also a replaceable bumper guard on the deck side to ensure prolonged deck integrity.
To help you grasp all this information, we've prepared detailed charts outlining the new Z3 model numbers, deck sizes, and other changes. So, before you head out to your local dealer, take some time to review these updates to make sure you choose the best 2023 mower for your needs.
